Prosecutors in Atlantic City have contacted New York authorities investigating the 'Craigslist Killer' deaths to see if there is a link to murders in their area.
New Jersey police have been unable to solve the murders of four prostitutes that occurred in the boardwalk area of Atlantic City four years ago. Search: An army of police officers swarmed the Long Island home of Joseph Brewer to hunt for clues in the deaths of four women by what authorities are calling the 'Craigslist Killer'.
Looking for clues: Brewer was reportedly the last person to see missing Shannon Gilbert alive back in May. FBI agents investigating the disappearance of prostitute Shannon Gilbert swarmed the home of a Long Island man last night who is thought to be the last person to see her alive.
The two-storey home of Joseph Brewer was searched by Suffolk police who are investigating the deaths of four women whose bodies were found dumped in the area.
The exclusive Oak Beach neighbourhood is just three miles from where the skeletal remains of the unidentified women were found on a desolate stretch of beach. Police poster: Officers searching for Shannon Gilbert, who vanished in May, found the first set of remains on Saturday.
Three more bodies were found on Monday. At least 18 vehicles, K-9 units and forensics investigators conducted a thorough search of the residence.
Mr Brewer was interviewed by authorities at his home after which they impounded his light-coloured Jeep Grand Cherokee and a white SUV parked in the driveway. Investigators do not yet know whether one of the remains found along Ocean Parkway is that of Ms Gilbert and are carrying out tests on the decomposed bodies.
The man who drove Ms Gilbert on the day she went missing said she was 'delirious' and 'irrational' during a call she made from a client's house that she had on classified website Craigslist. Feared dead: Police are investigating whether Megan Waterman is one of the victims of a serial killer who has murdered four people in New York.
He claimed that Ms Gilbert's client called him about three hours later and said that the year-old was refusing to leave. He said he overheard Ms Gilbert talking to a operator - telling them that a man was after her.
The driver said that he tried to get Ms Gilbert to leave but she said:'You guys are trying to kill me'. Police believe they are dealing with a serial murderer who has been dubbed the 'Craigslist Killer'. A young mother is also feared to be one of the victims of the serial killer who has murdered at least four women in New York.
Prostitute Megan Waterman, 22, disappeared in June after travelling from her home in Maine to New York to meet a man she had connected with on the Craigslist classified website. The remains of Miss Waterman, who has a four-year-old daughter, are thought to be among the four decomposing bodies found on a Long Island beach between Saturday and Monday.
Detectives believe that all four women were murdered and their bodies, two of which were wrapped in canvas, dumped around Oak Beach by a killer in a car. Miss Waterman's mother Lorraine Ela, speaking at her home in Scarborough, Maine, said today: 'I hope it's not my daughter. I've been ready [for bad news] since she went missing.
She said, "Mom, you can't believe the clients we have: doctors, police officers, famous people. We were making plans for her to come home for my birthday. I said, "Be safe.
Missing: The mother of Miss Waterman, pictured with her daughter, now four, today said she has been dreading bad news since she vanished in June. Police are now scrambling to investigate other reports of missing women in the area and detectives now fear more bodies may be discovered. All four bodies were in a quarter of a mile radius on the north side of beach-front road Ocean Parkway.
He said the skeletal remains of all four people appear to have been there for at least a month, but 'some appear to be have been there longer than others'. Round the clock investigation: Forensic experts scour the scene for potential clues.
Police today called in the FBI for help. Detectives said earlier this week that the bodies could have been tossed there as long as 18 months ago. The different levels of decomposition suggested the victims were dumped there at different times, police said.
She had arranged through Craigslist to meet a client on Fire Island, which is about a mile from Oak Beach. It was during a search for her on Saturday that police sniffer dog Blue led Officer John Mallia to the first body in thick underbrush, about 6ft to 8ft from the road's shoulder. The second, extremely decomposed, body was found in heavy underbush about ft away from the first body on Monday.
The two others were found a short while later. Oak Beach is one of a series of Long Island beaches run by towns and municipalities, the most famous being Jones Beach to the west.
